In light of the Act of 14 July 2006 on entry into, residence in and departure from the territory of the Republic of Poland of nationals of the Member States of the European Union and members of their families, a citizen of the European Union is a citizen:
• EU member state;
• a member state of the European Free Trade Agreement (EFTA) – a party to the Agreement on the European Economic Area;
• The Swiss Confederation.
EU citizens may stay on the territory of Poland for three months. If their stay is longer, they have to register their place of residence. The application for registration of residence must be submitted in person, no later than the next day after the end of the 3-month period following the date of entry into the territory of the Republic of Poland. The application must be submitted in Polish together with a valid travel document or other document confirming identity and citizenship, and four color photographs. It is also necessary to provide documents, the type of which depends on the reason for which the registration is to be made (these reasons are indicated in Article 16 of the Act of 14 July 2006 on entry into, residence in and departure from the territory of the Republic of Poland of nationals of the Member States of the European Union and members of their families). The competent authority for registering residence is the provincial Voivode with jurisdiction over the EU citizen’s place of residence.
