Polish citizenship can be obtained by granting it by the President, recognition as a citizen and restoration of citizenship. When applying for citizenship, the application should be completed in Polish and the relevant documents should be attached to it.
There are no detailed requirements that a foreigner should meet in order to be granted citizenship, as the President’s decision is discretionary. Assignment or denial shall be in the form of an order that does not require a statement of reasons and is not a subject to appeal.
Recognition as a Polish citizen requires meeting one of the conditions set forth in Art. 30 of the Act of April 2, 2009 on Polish Citizenship. If a foreign national had citizenship and lost it before January 1, 1999, he or she may apply for its restoration. For this purpose, an application must be submitted to the Minister of the Interior and Administration. All documents in a language other than Polish must be translated by a sworn translator or a consul of the Republic of Poland. The administrative fee for issuing the decision is 219 PLN. If the decision is not favorable to the applicant, a request for reconsideration of the case may be submitted to the Minister of the Interior and Administration within 14 days from the delivery of the decision. It is also possible to submit a complaint to the Provincial Administrative Court.
